What PHAs are

Polyhydroxy acids (PHAs) — including gluconolactone and lactobionic acid — exfoliate the skin like the better-known alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs glycolic and lactic). The key difference is molecule size: PHAs are physically larger, so they enter the skin more slowly and tend to cause less stinging on application.

What the research shows
