Vitamin C for Your Body, Not Just Your Face
Share
Most of us reach for a vitamin C serum for our face without thinking twice, then give the skin on our body nothing more than a quick moisturiser. Yet your body skin ages and meets the sun too.
What the research shows
A review of vitamin C in skin health explains that normal skin contains high concentrations of vitamin C, where it supports collagen synthesis and helps protect against UV-induced photodamage as an antioxidant. The authors note this is often used as the rationale for adding vitamin C to topical products (Pullar et al., 2017, PMID 28805671). That reasoning applies to the skin on your arms, chest and hands just as much as your face.
Why your body skin is worth the attention
The hands, forearms, neck and chest see a lot of daily sun over a lifetime, and they are often where the first signs of ageing show. Despite that, body skin usually gets a fraction of the care we give our faces. Extending an antioxidant habit below the jawline is a simple way to close that gap.
The Pacific approach to vitamin C
Pure Fiji's Citrus & Mokosoi range pairs vitamin C, drawn from Kakadu Plum, one of the richest natural sources of it, with cold-pressed Pacific oils. One of those oils, dilo (Calophyllum inophyllum), is a plant long used in Polynesian skin care, and a laboratory study examined it among five traditional Polynesian plants for their antioxidant properties (Chambon et al., 2023, PMID 37891949). It is an in vitro study rather than a clinical trial, but it reflects the oil's long traditional history in skin care.
How to work it in
- Swap your usual body wash for a vitamin C one so the habit starts in the shower.
- Follow with a vitamin C body lotion, butter or oil on slightly damp skin to lock in moisture.
- Give a little extra to the areas that see the most sun, like the backs of the hands and the chest.
